What is the Foldable Fabric Pergola?
When you want the option of a completely open sky, a foldable fabric pergola (also called a retractable pergola) is the answer. The roof is a heavy-duty technical fabric that glides along aluminium rails and folds into compact pleats at one end. Extend it to keep the rain away without losing your view, retract it to enjoy the sun, the breeze or the stars.
The system is fully automated. Open or close it wirelessly using a remote control or smartphone app - you never have to get up from the couch, even if it starts raining. Optional rain and wind sensors can close or retract the roof automatically.
We use Sauleda Cube fabric from Spain, an opaque technical fabric engraved on one side with small cube shapes and lacquered on both sides for durability and easy cleaning. It weighs 830 g/m2, is fire-retardant, and selected colours are eligible for SCDF submission for condo and commercial projects. The roof is driven by a Somfy outdoor heavy-duty motor from France, one of the most trusted motor brands in the world.
Designed for Singapore's tropical mix of strong sun and sudden rain, the foldable fabric pergola transforms patios, roof terraces, balconies and gardens into a convertible outdoor room, with optional LED lighting for the evening.

Foldable Fabric Pergola FAQs
What is a foldable fabric pergola?
It is a pergola with a technical fabric roof that runs on aluminium rails and folds into pleats when retracted. A motor opens and closes it, giving you a completely open sky or full shade and rain cover.
Is a fabric pergola waterproof?
Yes. The Sauleda Cube fabric is lacquered on both sides and the roof is installed with a fall so water runs off into a gutter. Like all fabric roofs, it should be retracted in very strong winds.
Fabric pergola or bioclimatic pergola?
A foldable fabric pergola opens fully to the sky and usually costs less for the same area. A bioclimatic pergola has rigid aluminium louvres that tilt for ventilation and handle heavier rain and wind. Choose fabric for maximum openness, louvres for maximum robustness.
How do I clean the fabric roof?
Rinse with fresh water and a soft brush occasionally to remove dust and leaves. The lacquered surface resists staining, and we can advise on mild cleaning products if needed.
